What Is Form N-400?
Form N-400, Application for Naturalization, is the form used to apply for U.S. citizenship. After approval, you will take the Oath of Allegiance and become a naturalized citizen of the United States.
Basic Requirements
Eligibility
- At least 18 years old
- Lawful permanent resident for at least 5 years (or 3 years if married to a U.S. citizen)
- Continuous residence and physical presence requirements met
- Good moral character
The Citizenship Test
- English reading, writing, and speaking test
- U.S. civics test (100 possible questions, you answer 10)
- Must pass with at least 6 out of 10 correct
- Exemptions may apply based on age and residency
